A French actor and wrestler, born in Coulommiers, France. He suffered from acromegaly and overgrowth, reaching 6' 3" at the age of 12. At the age of 17, several professional wrestlers watched him train in the gym. They were impressed by his size, and taught him some basic wrestling skills. He worked in the wrestling business for nearly thirty years.
In 1971, he came to North America, where became known as "Andre the Giant" and achieved fame in the wrestling field, appearing in roles in television, films and commercials. He bought a ranch in North Carolina, where he lived during his rare free time, and retired from wrestling in 1990. Among his credits are Casse-tête chinois pour le judoka (1967), The Princess Bride (1987) and Trading Mom (1994). He died of heart failure on January 28, 1993 in Paris, France.
