She was an American actress, born on February 2, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan, USA. She came from a well-off Catholic family, and her father was of Irish descent, while her mother had Welsh ancestry. One of her cousins was Cardinal Samuel Stritch, Archbishop of Chicago. She attended the Dramatic Workshop of the New School in New York City under Erwin Piscator, alongside Marlon Brando and Bea Arthur. Elaine is well known for her work on Broadway. In addition to appearing in various stage productions, musicals, feature films, and television shows, she made her professional stage debut in 1944. In 1995, she was honored with a place in the American Theater Hall of Fame. Among her notable works are 30 Rock (2007-2012), Two's Company (1975-1979), and Law & Order (1992-1997). Her latest work was Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja (2014). Elaine received many awards and nominations, such as the Primetime Emmy Awards, Tony Award, a BAFTA TV Award, and the Gold Derby TV Awards. She passed away on July 17, 2014, at her home in Birmingham, Michigan, USA, at the age of 89.
