An American politician, born on July 11, 1897, in Selma, Alabama, USA. Connor enforced legal racial segregation and denied civil rights to black citizens, particularly during 1963's Birmingham campaign, which was led by the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. He became known for directing the use of fire hoses and police attack dogs against civil rights activists, including children. As national media broadcast these methods on TV, shocking much of the world, these horrifying acts led to the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by the United States Congress. He was a member of the Democratic Party and the Alabama House of Representatives. He appeared as himself in the TV documentary The American Revolution of '63 (1963). He died on March 10, 1973, in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, of a stroke.
