A British actor born in Thornton Heath, London, UK. He made his onscreen debut at only 4 years old in silent films where he appeared in about 6 films until 1919, including The Toilers (1919). He worked at his father's paper company for a while and left it to pursue writing. His first novel "The Watch Hunt" was published when he was 18 years old. He gradually shifted to writing plays for theater and radio. He appeared as an adult in 9 films and won a BAFTA for his role in Brothers in Law (1957). Other works of his include the Carry On film series, Dentist in the Chair (1960) and the TV series Compact (1964). He married actress Pearl Hackney and they had one child. He died on 1 June 1990 in Kent, UK.
