A British actress born in Blackburn, Lancashire, UK. After school, she trained for a year at RADA. She made her stage debut on The Constant Flirt (1926) and appeared onstage on the West End in 1927. Her notable works include Night Must Fall (1937), Oliver Twist (1948), A Christmas Carol (1951), and The Pickwich Papers (1952). She married John Henry Back and had three children. She died on 7 December 1995 in London, UK, at the age of 103.
