Australian actor and director, born in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia on March 23, 1893 as George André de Beranger. He began his activity in silent films, and his career faded with the emergence of sound at the late twenties. He studied acting at the Walter Bentley College of Elocution and Dramatic Acting. He played Shakespearean roles at the age of 16. Then he immigrated to the United States in 1912, and worked in the silent film industry in Hollywood. Among his notable works: The Bat (1926), Number 17 (1920), and Burn 'Em Up Barnes (1921). He died in California, USA on March 8, 1973.
