An American actor, he was born in Belleville, Illinois, on April 2, 1908. He won a Golden Boot award in 1984, a TV Land award in 2004 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for his film career. He was married three times and had 7 children. He formed a vaudeville act with his sister Vilma Ebsen, who later appeared with him in Broadway Melody of 1936 (1935). He's known for The Beverly Hillbillies (1962-1971), Captain January (1936), Born to Dance (1936), and Breakfast at Tiffany's (1961). He continued his work in cinema and television until he retired in 1999 and died in 2003 due to complications of pneumonia, at age 95.
