He made his onscreen debut on the film The Last Coupon (1932). His notable works include Jassy (1947), Scott of the Antarctic (1948), Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949), and The Monsters (1962). He married twice and never had children. He died of cancer on 24 September 1975 in London, England, UK.
