He was an American actor and director born in Columbia, Missouri, on February 9, 1880. Hickman was married to actress and producer Bessie Barriscale, they had a child, and she remained with him until his death. He began his artistic career in the vaudeville theater, and entered the world of cinema in its silent era, and presented more than 50 silent films, and in the sound era, he often played the roles of judges, executives or politicians. His most important works include: Nobody's Kid (1921), Gone with the Wind (1939), and Kitty Kelly, M.D. (1919). Hickman died of a heart attack in 1949 at the age of 69.
