An American actor, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He married actress Margot Stevenson (1953-2009) and had a daughter with her. She remained with him until his death. His most notable works include The Magnificent Seven (1960), The Amityville Horror (1979), The Wanderers (1979), and Cobra (1986). He is an American actor of Armenian descent. He has appeared in film and television over a 50-year career, playing tough guys, outlaws, thugs, gangsters, laborers, and waiters. His father was the founder of the Republic of Armenia, and his mother was an Armenian actress. He was a flight instructor in the US Army during World War II. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and studied drama at a drama school in Philadelphia after his discharge from the Army. He worked in Armenian youth productions in Philadelphia and in television productions, which led to his appearance as an actor in westerns and crime dramas in film and television. He has also appeared on Broadway. He died in Greenwich Village, Manhattan, New York, USA, at the age of 85.
