He left cinema in 1926 and returned to the theater, then returned to Hollywood during the advent of sound to direct versions of American films in the German language. He married Ella Reicher (1899-1948), who remained with him until her death. He's known for Dr. Cyclops (1940), King Kong (1933) and Captain America (1944). He died in Playa del Rey, California, USA on January 19, 1965.
