An American film and television actor, born in Lima, Ohio, USA. He married actress Geraldine Blair in 1915. His most notable works include The Best Years of Our Lives (1946), Mourning Becomes Electra (1947), Winter Meeting (1948), and Ride, Vaquero! (1953). He was a prolific American film, television, and theater actor, often in small roles. He was born to stage parents and joined his parents' theater company. He had extensive experience on Broadway (1917–1937). He also acted in films from the mid-1930s, always playing middle-class, often downtrodden, small-town, or rural people. He worked exclusively in television after 1956. Baldwin died in Santa Monica, California, USA, on January 27, 1977, from pneumonia, at the age of 88.
