British actress, born in Islington, London. Her parents separated in 1882. She accompanied her mother, the actress Agnes Thomas, on a tour around the world. As a result, she received much of her education in convent schools in Belgium, England, and America. She also spent some time in Australia, initially as a member of the Ethel Irving Company, which was brought to Melbourne in 1911 by JC Williamson. She began her career from 1900 till the 1940s. She had a theatrical career in Britain, Australia, and America, before moving to Hollywood to participate in motion pictures. She became a member of the Screen Actors Guild in late 1935. She is known for The Little Princess (1939), The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939), and Kind Lady (1935). She died on September 26, 1961, in South Pasadena, California, USA
