• A British film and stage actor, born in Sheffield, England, United Kingdom. His most notable film works include Mademoiselle Fifi (1944), Captain Caution (1940), Alibi for Murder...Read more (1936), and Sharpshooters (1938). He worked in theater and film, beginning his stage acting career with Shakespeare's company in 1906. He had an active role on Broadway for 25 years. In the mid-1930s, he devoted himself to sound film work, having made two silent films, playing the roles of a butler, a waiter, a doctor, a judge, and a taxi driver. In 1918, he joined the US Navy and served during the final stages of World War I. He died in New York City, New York, USA, on February 5, 1976, at the age of 92.
