An American film actress, born in Butte, Montana, USA. She married Robert S. Howard (1939-1962) and they had two children. He remained with her until his death. She was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Stage Door and received a Golden Palm star on the Palm Springs Walk of Stars. Her most notable film works include It Could Happen to You (1937), The Goldwyn Follies (1938), Swanee River (1939), and Stage Door (1937). She earned a BA from the University of California, Los Angeles. She was a popular supporting actress in the late 1930s and was nominated for an Academy Award. As she progressed into more prominent roles, she retired after her marriage and later became a successful horse breeder and ran a jewelry company. She died in Palm Springs, California, USA, on May 21, 1984, from cancer at the age of 70.
