An American film actor, born in New Haven, Connecticut, USA. His most notable films include Name the Woman (1934), The Fireman (1916), The Circus (1928), and Bow Wow (1922). John was a former circus clown and comedian who was active during the silent film era and continued his activity with the advent of talkies. He was known for his close collaboration with comedian Charlie Chaplin, becoming a staple in his films. He appeared in many of his films between 1915 and 1936, mostly playing supporting roles such as policemen or funny side characters. John died in Los Angeles, California, USA, on January 25, 1940, at the age of 68.
