An American dancer and choreographer, born in New York, USA. She is known as one of the most well-known figures in postmodern dance and one of the most important postmodern dance choreographers of the current era. She began her artistic career at the Judson Dance Theater for in 1963. She choreographed 13 performances and worked with Yvonne Rainer, Steve Paxton, and Robert Morris.
She created her own dance company in 1973 and choreographed more than 50 works of expressive solo and ensemble performances. She also appeared in many important works by Robert Wilson. She worked with Robert Wilson and Mikhail Baryshnikov on Wilson's new production, Letter to a Man, which premiered in Spoleto, Italy, in 2015. Early on in her career, she appeared in the short film Prune. Flat.
