An African-American Muslim minister and human rights activist, born in 1925 as Malcolm Little. His father was Earl Little, an outspoken Baptist lay speaker who was killed in a crime by an unknown perpetrator. Malcolm was six at the time, and his mother was later placed in a mental hospital. He lived a childhood full of difficulties and poverty until he was imprisoned in 1946 for theft.
While in prison, Malcolm joined the Nation of Islam movement led by Elijah Muhammad, and upon his release in 1952, his leadership personality and oratorical abilities contributed to his promotion and rise to the ranks of prominent figures in the movement. Malcolm X was assassinated on February 21, 1965, while preparing to address the Organization of Afro-American Unity in Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan. His credits include the film Malcolm X (1992), which was based on his autobiography.
