She studied public speaking at the age of 13 and joined a theater company and appeared on the London stage at the age of 17. Her first film was Lady in the Fog (1952), and her first television work was BBC Sunday-Night Theater (1953). She retired from acting in 1965 after her last film Night Train to Paris (1964) and died in 2012 of complications from a stroke at the age of 80 .
