A Canadian actor and academic, born in St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada, as Arthur Dickinson Massé. He's best known for working in English films. He became a professor of theater at the University of South Florida in the 1960s, and remained on the faculty until his retirement as professor emeritus in 1966.
In 1958, he appeared in Tennessee Williams' play Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in London. Just as he worked in film and theater, he also appeared to a greater extent in television shows, and his first television work was Television Playwright (1958). After a number of films and television programs, he shifted his focus to teaching. Over the years, he taught acting, scene study, audio production, comedy, and directing. His last appearance was in the series Savannah (1996), then he retired.
He married Anne McPherson in 1959. Among his notable works are Call Me Genius (1961) and The Two Faces of Dr. Jekyll (1960). He won the BAFTA Award for Most Promising Newcomer in 1959 for Orders to Kill (1958). He died of lymphoma in Liverpool, Nova Scotia, Canada, on June 8, 2011, at age 78.
