A British theater, film, and television actor, writer, and theater director, born in Halifax, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom. He married Nina Brinkley (1956-1999), they had two children, and she remained with him until her death. His most important works include Carry on Cruising (1962), Carry on Jack (1964), and The Jazz Age (1968).
He graduated from St Peter's School in York. As a young man, he began his career in repertory theater in Yorkshire, touring with a theater company headed by Jean Forbes-Robertson. After performing his military service, he moved to London, where he made his early appearances in West End theaters.
In the early 1950s, he made his first television movie, Rush Job (1951). His first cinematic movie was The Whole Truth (1958), and his last movie was U-Turn (1973). His last appearance was the TV series The Chiffy Kids (1978). He devoted himself to writing and directing theatrical works. When his wife died in 1999, he retired from artistic work, and he died in York, Yorkshire, England, United Kingdom, on April 21, 2005.
