An American actor born in the Bronx, on February 14, 1929. He was born to Russian Jewish immigrants, and his father was an electrical engineer. He left high school at the age of 17 to join the US Navy. When he left the Navy, he studied law, and practiced acting in the school theater. After a few years in cinema, he left acting to study directing at the University of Southern California. He is an American actor and director who emerged as one of the main protagonists of the drama series Combat. He directed seven episodes and acted in 152 episodes. He was nominated for a Prime Hour Television Emmy in 1963. He was married twice and had two children. His most important works: Combat! (1962-1967), Tribute to a BadMan (1956), The Bad News Bears (1976) and Twilight Zone (1983). He continued to act, direct and produce until his death. While filming the movie Twilight Zone, when the chasing helicopter fell on his head, and he was killed, at the age of 51.
