An American actor, born in Brooklyn, New York, USA on September 29, 1905 and died in Encino Los Angeles, California, USA on April 11, 1973 affected by a stroke. He married two wives and had 4 children. His most important works are 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea (1954), The Lady from Shanghai (1947), The Naked City (1948), and The Killing (1956). He worked as an American actor in radio, film, and television, best known for playing villainous roles in many films of the forties and fifties. He debuted his cinematic career in the movie, The Lady from Shanghai (1947). His posture and terrifying voice qualified him to play the roles of street thugs, murderers, outlaw gang leaders, and crime bosses. He is known for The Enforcer (1951) with star Humphrey Bogart, and his last work was The Outside Man (1972). He died of a stroke in 1973 at the age of 67.
