After...Read more graduation, he worked for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, and during World War II, he served as a pilot officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, then worked as a principal newsreader on the CBC National News. In 1952, he moved to the United States, where he worked on Broadway, then began appearing regularly on television, in films and on the radio. He received numerous film, television, and radio awards, as well as a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1985 for his television work. He was married twice and had three children. He's known for The Silver Chalice (1954), Earthquake (1974), and Bonanza (1959-1973). He died of pneumonia following heart surgery in Santa Monica, California, USA, on September 11, 1987, at age 72.
