An American actor, born in Salem, Massachusetts, USA, on April 30, 1886 and died in Burbank, California, USA on December 22, 1961 from a heart disease. He married Ora Esther Claud (1907-1949), and they had a child. She remained with him until her death. His most important works are Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (1939), Li'l Abner (1940), and Christmas in Connecticut (1945). He worked in more than 250 films from the 1930s until his death. He provided small and supporting roles, and his first film was Central Airport (1933). He presented dozens of TV programs and played the role of Saint Claus in many TV shows. He also worked in theater for 30 years before appearing on screen. He presented his latest movie Go, Johnny, Go! (1959) and then appeared in some TV programs until he died of a heart disease in 1961 at the age of 75.
