An American actor, born in Toledo, Ohio, USA, on June 12, 1901. He died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA, on October 17, 1997. His most important works are The Desert Hawk (1944), 77 Park Lane (1931), Kid Galahad (1937), and Impact (1949). He played a variety of gangsters roles in film and television, in a comic way, taking advantage of his short stature and baldness. He began his artistic activity in Britain in 1930, where he presented American characters before returning to the United States of America in 1937 to sign a contract with Warner Company. He served in the US Army during World War II, and after the war, he continued his film work. In the early fifties, he worked on TV series. He presented his first work in British cinema, The Man from Chicago (1930), and his last work was Batman (1966). He retired and opened a sweet shop in Beverly Hills. He died in 1997 at the age of 96.
