An Australian-American musician and actor of Hungarian and Irish descent, he was born on October 16, 1962, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He moved with his family to the United States at the age of four and later became a U.S. citizen. He is a founding member and guitarist of the rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers, one of the world's most prominent rock bands. He is also the co-founder of the Silverlake Music Institute, a non-profit organization established in 2001 for underprivileged children. He began his acting career in minor roles in the mid-1980s. He has appeared in numerous films and television series, including The Big Lebowski, Back to the Future Part II, and Baby Driver.
