An American actor, born in Vincennes, Indiana, USA as William Edward Phipps. He received the Special Jury Prize at the 1954 Venice Film Festival. His works include Cat-Women of the Moon (1953), The War of the Worlds (1953), Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993), and Cinderella (1950). He worked as a film and television actor and producer. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University, majoring in accounting, and he served in the US Navy for 3 years during World War II as a radio operator on several ships. He moved to Hollywood in 1941 and worked on stage and then on the cinema screen in 1947 with RKO in the movie Crossfire (1947). For over 60 years, he worked in film, television, and commercials and did voiceover work in more than 250 productions. His last acting and production work was Sordid Lives (2000), after which he died in Santa Monica, California, USA on June 1, 2018 of lung cancer.
