An American actor, born in Vincennes, Indiana, USA on February 4, 1922 as William Edward Phipps and died in Santa Monica, California, USA on June 1, 2018 of lung cancer. He received the Special Jury Prize at the 1954 Venice International Festival. His most important works are Cat-Women of the Moon (1953), The War of the Worlds (1953), Homeward Bound: The Incredible Journey (1993), and Cinderella (1950). He worked as an American film and television actor and producer. He graduated from Eastern Illinois University specializing in accounting, and he served in The US Navy for 3 years during World War II as a radio operator on several warships. He appeared in many plays in elementary school and at Eastern Illinois University. He moved to Hollywood in 1941 and worked on stage and then on the cinema screen in 1947 with RKO company in the movie Crossfire (1947). For over 60 years, he worked in film, television, commercials, and voiceover in more than 250 works. His last acting and production work was Sordid Lives (2000), after which he died of lung cancer in 2018 at the age of 96.
