An American writer and actress, born in St. Louis, Missouri, USA as Jean Rouveyrol. She won two Writers Guild of America Awards. She married writer and director Hugo Butler (1937-1968), and they had 6 children, with whom he remained until his death. She began her career in the...Read more theater, and during her study holidays at Stanford University, she appeared in films alongside Mickey Rooney, and continued to play supporting roles until 1940, and due to her frequent childbearing, she moved away from the cinema, and worked on radio, devoting herself to writing. In 1943, she and her husband joined the Communist Party, and in the early fifties, she was summoned for investigation, because of her communist activities, so she fled with her family to Mexico for 13 years, then they traveled to Italy, then returned to Mexico, and finally returned to the US. Some of her notable works are It's a Gift (1934), Stage Door (1937) and Bar 20 Rides Again (1935). She died in Wingdale, New York State, USA, on March 24, 2017, at the age of one hundred.
