His most important films include It's a Wonderful Life (1946), Citizen Kane (1941), Notorious (1946), and The Killing (1956). He left his profession as an undertaker and went on to work in cinema as an extra, playing the roles of a gambler, waiter, reporter, cabbie, officer, spectator, and elevator operator. His first work was Bullets or Ballots (1936), and his last work was The True Story of Lynn Stuart (1958). He died in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, USA, on January 28, 1959.
