An American actress, born in Portland, Oregon, USA, as Maude Merrie Doyle. She married three husbands and had two children. Her most important works include The Andy Griffith Show (1964-1967), Hazel (1961-1966), and The Jack Benny Program (1954-1964). She acted in more than 300 plays, films, and television shows during a career spanning 4 decades.
She appeared in her beginnings in American Western films, and her first appearance was in the movie Gold Mine in the Sky (1938). She presented in cinema the roles of maids, secretaries, spinsters, and nosy neighbors. She had major experience in TV series, the most famous of which was the series Hazel (1961-1966), where she presented 36 episodes. Her last appearance was in the TV series McMillan & Wife (1974), and she died in Pasadena, California, USA on April 14, 1976 of uremic poisoning.
