An American actor, born in New York City, New York, USA on March 19, 1907, as Frank Kent Smith. He died in Woodland Hills, Los Angeles, California, USA on April 23, 1985, of heart disease. He married twice and had one daughter. His most important works are Cat People (1942), The Spiral Staircase (1946), and The Curse of the Cat People (1944). He had a long career in film, theater, and television.
Born to a hotel owner, he gained experience standing in front of crowds as a child, working as an assistant to magician Blackstone. He graduated from boarding school in New Hampshire, attended Harvard University, and gained experience working with stock companies on Maryland Theater productions in Baltimore. He debuted on Broadway in 1932. He moved to Hollywood and presented his first work The Garden Murder Case (1936).
He continued to work in cinema until he joined the US Army during World War II, where he made training films. After he was discharged from the army, he continued his cinematic activity. In the early fifties, he was a guest on many television programs. He is known for Peyton Place (1964-1966), where he participated in 53 episodes, and The Invaders (1967-1968), where he participated in 13 episodes. His last appearance was in Die Sister Die! (1978).
