An American actor and comedian, born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, USA. He graduated from the University of Illinois in 1949 (Bachelor of Arts, radio journalism) and worked at the campus radio station and the University of Illinois Theater Guild. He served briefly in the military...Read more in Korea, and was discharged due to suffering from a duodenal ulcer. He performed in several nightclubs in New York, until he was cast in the musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, then he subsequently appeared in several theatres, and from there to film and television. He won a Primetime Emmy Award in 1969 and a Saturn Award in 1980. He was married twice and had no children. Among his notable credits are Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In (1967), Baggy Pants & the Nitwits (1977) and Love at First Bite (1979). He died of bladder and prostate cancer in Los Angeles, California, USA, on July 3, 2019, at age 90.
