An American actor, born in San Francisco, on July 16, 1886. He began his career in the silent film era, and extended until the end of the fifties. He worked at the vaudeville theater in addition to his cinematic work. He participated in 10 Oscar-nominated films, including: All Quiet on the Western Front (1930), Cimarron (1931), and The Best Years of Our Lives (1946). He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960 for his film work. He got married to Irene Blake in 1913, and they had three children. His most important works include: Uncle Tom without a Cabin (1919), When Damon Fell for Pythias (1917), Hard Boiled (1926), and Ham and Eggs at the Front (1927). He died in Hollywood, on July 30, 1959 at the age of 73. |
