An American singer, songwriter and actor, born to Jewish parents in New York, United States. He was educated in public schools in Denver and Jewish training schools. He was a professional pianist at the age of 14, and led his own orchestra at the age of 17. He entertained troops...Read more overseas in World War II. He was married three times and had three children. Among his works are Penthouse Rhythm (1945), A Life of Her Own (1950) and Wild Wild West (1999). He suffered from problems with alcohol throughout his life, which led to a fall and a double fracture of his hip in 1961. After several surgeries, his health deteriorated, and he died a year later in Los Angeles, California, USA, at age 57.
