A British actress who was born in Madras, British India, as Avice Spitta. She won the British Clarence Derwent Award Award for Best Supporting Female (UK) in 1960. She married actor Bruno Barnabe (1940-1976), had a child, and remained with him until her death. She is known for The Franchise Affair (1951), Pride and Prejudice (1952), and Nothing But the Best (1964). She was a British theatrical actress who excelled in playing the roles of upper-class widows or mothers on the British screen. Her first work was Indoor Fireworks (1947). She continued her work in cinema and television until she presented her last work, The Adventures of Barry McKenzie (1972). She retired until she died in 1976 in Twickenham, Middlesex, England, United Kingdom.
