He was a British actor, born in Ryhope, Sunderland, UK. He launched his career in the early 1950s as a stage actor at the Alexandra Theatre. He graduated from the West End and provided several theatrical productions. Since 1955, he has been a screen actor, appearing in both TV and cinema productions. He is known for The Sea Gull (1968), A Tale of Two Cities (1957), and The Saint (1963-1969). He received a nomination for Broadway's Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play. He was married to Dorothy May Goodman, with whom he had a child. He died at the age of 47 on April 23, 1976, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, from a brain hemorrhage.
