• British actor, born in Colville, Leicestershire, England, on October 30, 1924. He was married to the actress Nona Blair (1953-2005), and they had two children, and she remained...Read more with him until his death. He was one of the best and most prolific actors in Britain, was a familiar face to the British audience in the fifties and sixties. He appeared in 50 films, and more than 200 television appearances. He left school at the age of 16 and worked in an office before studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art RADA. He served in the Royal Air Force during World War II, and was demobilized in 1947. He became a member of the BBC Radio Drama Company, and had worked in theater since 1951. His most important works are: Department S (1969), The Avengers (1965), Cash on Demand (1961) and The Lord of the Rings (1978). He died in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, England, on October 22, 2005 of cancer.
