American boxer and actor who was born in Wisconsin, on January 6, 1902 as Ray Faust. He did not marry and had no children. His notable works are Where's Raymond (1955) and Shane (1953). He was a former naval heavyweight boxing champion and a supporting actor in film and television. After he underwent a screen test for Paramount Pictures, he won the admiration of director Cecil B. DeMille and he debuted with the movie No More Women (1934).
DeMille helped him appear in many of his films, and over a period of 30 years, he became one of Hollywood's most sought-after actors playing supporting roles. With the advent of television, he made guest appearances in many sitcoms. His last film appearance was Invitation to a Gunfight (1964). He died in Los Angeles, on February 23, 1964, at the age of 62.
