British actor born in South Yorkshire, England, on 22 October 1917. He trained at RADA and was a stage actor in Liverpool for 3 years. He made his film debut on The Masque of Kings (1946). His notable works include The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), Quatermass and the Pit (1958-1959), and The Happiest Days of Your Life (1950). He was married to Beatrice Myers till his death. He died on 3 June 2004 in Middlesex, UK. |
