British actor, writer, producer and comedian, born in Norfolk, England, on January 30, 1908. He got married to actress Yvonne Hearne (1941-1979), and they had two children. He was the first artist to have his own television series, by taking on the character of Mr. Pastry. He received the OBE Officer Medal for Charitable Services to Disabled Children. In his early years, he worked as an acrobat in a circus. Among his notable works are: Just for Fun (1947), The Time of His Life (1955), and The Madame Gambles (1951). He died in Kent, England, on August 23, 1979.
