Italian professional motorcycle racer, born on January 20, 1987, in Cattolica, Italy. He competed in the MotoGP Grand Prix from 2002 to 2011. He started in the 125cc class and moved to the 250cc class in 2006. He became the 250cc world champion with Italy's Gilera Team. On October 23, 2011, he was killed in an accident while racing at the Malaysian motorcycle Grand Prix, and racers Colin Edwards and Valentino Rossi were also involved in the accident.
