American comedian and actor born in Chicago, Illinois, US on 14 December 1908. He began his career in vaudeville theater in 1922, performing jokes and playing the cello. He had a great career as a songwriter and comedian. He made his TV debut in 1952 and his film debut in 1958. His notable works as an actor include Muscle Beach Party (1964), Beach Party (1963), and The Dick Van Dyke Show (1961-1966). He was nominated for an Emmy for Best Supporting Actor in 1966. He was married twice and had 2 children. He died of a heart attack on 27 October 1966 in Los Angeles, California, US.
