British actor born in Kensington, London, England, United Kingdom on July 11, 1904 as Samuel Philip Leaver. His notable works include The Tales of Hoffmann (1951), Martin Luther (1953), and The Lady Vanishes (1938). He was a stage, film and TV actor who played supporting roles. He died in Palma, Spain in 1981, at the age of 77.
