American actress, born on March 21, 1939 in Wilmington, Delaware, USA. She was born the eldest of 6 siblings raised by their mother. She moved to Manhattan to pursue theatrical work, and studied at the Sorbonne University in Paris. She then studied acting at Yale University, where she appeared in the productions of the Yale Repertory Theater, and then returned frequently to the New York theater. She got married twice, and had a baby girl. She was nominated for an Emmy in the years 1994,91,87,86, as well as a Tony Award and a Drama Diski Award. She also won the Lucille Lortel and Obie Award. Among her most important works are: As the World Turn (1985-2010), The Sea Gull (1968), and Courage Under Fire (1996).
