A British writer, born on September 13, 1660, in London, England, United Kingdom. Defoe wrote "Robinson Crusoe" and "Moll Flanders," both of which became hugely successful. He is considered a social historian due to his interest in colonialism, economics, and exploration. Defoe married Mary Tuffley. After he was found guilty of "seditious libel" in 1703, he was sent to Newgate Prison. He wrote "Hymn to the Pillory" while in prison. Among his credits are Robinson Crusoe (1916) and The Adventures of Robinson Crusoe (1922). He died on April 24, 1731, in London, England, United Kingdom.
