British actor, born in Fondebusch, South Africa on April 21, 1902, as Sir Campbell Mitchell Cotts. He was also a writer and lawyer, of South African origin, who worked in British theatre, film, and television. He fought in World War II and became first lieutenant. He appeared on Broadway with Katharine Hepburn at the Shubert Theater in 1952. He made his debut with the movie Fame Is the Spur (1947), and his last appearance was in the television series Somerset Maugham Hour in 1962. Among his notable works are Brass Monkey (1948), Last Holiday (1950), and The Good Companions (1957). He died in London, England, on February 19, 1964.
