British actor and singer, born on February 19, 1920, in Bicester, Oxfordshire, England. Rose studied at the Central School of Speech and Drama. He made his Broadway debut in a 1946 production of Henry IV, Part I and continued to play in New York City and London's West End for the remainder of the decade. His notable film credits include A New Leaf (1971), The Pirates of Penzance (1983), and A Night to Remember (1958). He won two Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Musical for roles in My Fair Lady and The Mystery of Edwin Drood. He died on May 5, 1988, in Rio Plata, Dominican Republic.
