German actress and singer, born on March 7, 1923, in Berlin, Germany. Her father was director Rudolf Bernauer. Her family fled Berlin in 1936 and lived in England for several years. During WWII, she became involved with top-secret British Special Operations radio broadcasts. Her radio broadcasts were bounced over to Germany and primarily aimed at spreading confusion and lowering morale among German forces, along with being littered with coded messages for resistance fighters. She released 3 albums, appeared in over 20 films, and also made stage and television appearances. She is known for The Good Companions (1957), The First Great Train Robbery (1978), and An Awfully Big Adventure (1995). She received an award at the Palm Springs International ShortFest for her role in Still Life (1999). She was married to the writer and director, Desmond Leslie. Agnes Bernelle died on February 15, 1999, in Dublin, Ireland, at the age of 75.
