British actress, born in West Ham, Essex, London, on October 23, 1914 as Eunice Holden. She was best known for her comedy roles in various series and films. She made her stage debut in Unity Theater in London in 1937, and studied English and drama during the war. She worked as a drama and English language teacher during the forties, and appeared in films for the first time at the age of 46. Her notable works, include Laughter from the Whitehall (1963), Love Is a Splendid Illusion (1970) and Holiday on the Buses (1973). She died in London, on August 27, 2007.
